Double harvest vessel delivery
Since 2017, Finnøy has been the main supplier of propulsion systems for the shipowners’ fleet. Previous deliveries include Taumar, Taupo, and Taupiri which have been built at Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted (FMV). The new sister ships have been designed by Salt Ship Design in Stord and will be built at Sefine Shipyard in Turkey. The aim is to complete them in 2024 for transporting salmon from farms to factories in central Norway. Napier operates along the entire Norwegian coast, from Agder in the south to Bodø in the north.
The recently concluded contract includes the delivery of complete propulsion systems - gears, propellers, and remote control. With regard to the vessels’ variable power needs, the natural choice fell on a gearbox of type 2-SPEED. The low gear will be used during transit with an empty vessel, while the high gear is used for transit with a loaded vessel . The solution allows optimal propeller efficiency for both operating modes. Low propeller speed leads to minimal zero pitch loss, fuel savings, and a quiet propeller. The overall result is increased comfort for the crew on board, in addition to reduced noise pollution to marine environments. The delivery is part of Finnøy's long-term transformation strategy, where green innovations are developed for tomorrow's aquaculture industry.
